The requirements
The FIEGE Group with its headquarters in Greven, Westphalia, is one of the leading logistics providers in Europe and has specialised in efficient logistics solutions. With around 19,000 employees at more than 150 locations in 12 countries, FIEGE operates internationally: from the core markets in Europe to India and China.
As the FIEGE Group has been able to demonstrate constant double-digit growth rates at the Bremen location for years, the existing storage capacities at the Bremen Freight Transport Centre were to be further expanded with the new construction of the Megacenter Bremen II, and smaller warehouses were to be dissolved and merged at the central location in Megacenter II.
The capacities were largely fixed, the challenge was to coordinate all technical details and their realisation. All FIEGE's mega centres are completely equipped according to uniform technical standards, which had to be precisely implemented in the production and construction of the racking systems. From the minimum support width to the special push-through protection.
The solution
Dexion has installed a 58-line P90 pallet racking system and a Hi280 shelving system with a total of 50 bays in hall sections 1 to 3. Hall section 4 is still being planned.
P90 pallet racking system with manual order picking
- A total of 58 rows of P90 pallet racks provide space for a total of 58,000 pallet spaces
- Racking row lengths of up to 160 m have been implemented, with a maximum rack height of 11.80 m
- The pallet racks were manufactured completely, especially according to FIEGE standards
- The goods are picked manually with forklifts
- All passages are secured with IPE beams and lattice grids.
Hi280 shelf racks on concrete platform
- Via 4 transfer stations, individual pallets can be transported by forklift to a concrete platform on which a Hi280 shelving system has been installed
- The shelving racking system has 300 shelves
- All shelves are equipped with scanner strips and labels
- Each shelf has a maximum shelf load of 215 kg.
The result
The Megacenter Bremen II consists of a total of four hall sections with a basic storage area of 37,000 m2, the total investment volume was 30 million euros. The warehouse, which was built according to ecological criteria, draws part of the required electricity from its own wind power plant.
A P90 pallet racking system, a total of 58 rows with 1,000 pallet spaces per row, up to 11.80 m high, a total of 58,000 pallet spaces and a Hi280 shelving system with 300 shelves on a concrete platform were installed within 10 weeks, including acceptance.
The warehouse complies with the International Food Standard for the storage of food and has its own food laboratory for product testing. An automatic loading and unloading system for the trucks ensures extremely short handling times. Within only eight minutes a truck can be completely loaded or unloaded with 30 tons of goods.
"The cooperation with Dexion was pleasingly uncomplicated," says Stefan Kazmierz in positive terms. "Our wishes and requirements were fully considered, Dexion showed itself to be flexible, responded in the shortest possible time and took care of all the details in an exemplary manner. For me it was a carefree construction site", the FIEGE project manager summarises.
