Business need

Volkswagen Parts Logistics supports all car models in the Volkswagen group by supplying spare parts for its famous brands which include VW, Audi, Seat, Porsche and Skoda.

With growing markets in the Baltics and Scandinavia, the company decided to create a new central warehouse capable of storing the 100,000 spare parts they currently hold. A 37,500m² newly built warehouse in Nykvarn was selected, and it needed to be fitted out to house the operation.

Volkswagen Parts Logistics chose Constructor to create the most efficient solution.

Constructor solution

VW brands have their own distinct identity so the warehouse was planned to accommodate this. Each department was equipped with its own storage system, based on brand, package size (articles) and turnover. The systems consisted of Pallet Racking, Narrow Aisle systems, shelving systems (HI280) and Cantilever systems to give the following capacities:

• Mezzanine floor: 2500m²
• Pallet racking: P90 (12,300 locations)
• Shelving System: HI280 (44,650 shelves)
• Cantilever system: GT90 for long goods

The result

With over 100,000 item types that needed to be easily accessible, Constructor had their work cut out. Their solution provided everything needed to make the most efficient use of space at minimum cost.
